11 And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. Exodus 17:11-13

In our anchor scripture today, the Children of Israel had left Egypt but had not arrived in the promised land.  While in a place called Rephidim, the Amalekites attacked and waged war against them.  The scriptures record that while Joshua led the army in the physical combat, Moses ascended a mountain and held his hand up unto God with his rod in it.

As long as Moses had his hand up, the Israelites prevailed against the Amalekites  but whenever Moses dropped his hand, for whatever reason, the battle went against the Children of Israel.  The message from this scripture for us is simple. In life, whenever we drop our hands from worshipping, praising and surrendering all to God, the battles of life will go against us!

As long as we can keep our hearts and hands raised in praise, worship and adoration, we will prevail against whatever situations and challenges that come our way.

Naturally, as the hours passed, Moses became tired.  Bible records that Aaron and Hur brought a seat for him and supported his arms when they grew weak.  This portion of our anchor scripture brings us to our second message – the quality of your allies will determine your victory or defeat over the battles you face.  Who are your allies?  Who are your confidantes?

Do you move around with friends who rather than support you in praise and worship when the battle is fiercest, discourage you and make you see the worst in ever situation?  Say you were given a contrary diagnosis from the doctor.  Would your closest companions encourage you to praise your way out of the bad situation or would they start recounting to you all the people with such diagnosis who have died and urge you to say your last prayers?

Do your allies by their actions support you in prayers and praise or do they tire you out further?  Aron and Hur supported Moses hands to the end!  Until the victory was complete!  Would the people you call friends support you in praise and prayers till the very end?   While we evaluate our relationships in line with this scripture, we must also evaluate ourselves!  What kind of friends are we?  Do we also support those who rely on us and encourage them to praise through the battles of life?  Or do we bring discouragement and negativity to our friends?

Today’s scripture presents us with two keys to staying on top in life: 1. Never stop praising and lifting your hands to God; 2. Surround yourselves with people who would support you and encourage you to praise at your lowest moments!  Evaluate your relationships – Who are your Allies?

God help us all!

Prayer:

Father in the name of Jesus.  Thank you for your word today.  Give us the grace to keep praising till the battle is won! Take all the glory Almighty God, in Jesus mighty name we have prayed!
